Studios

The Design Fabrication Center is comprised of a number of studios that support various activities. The following is an introduction to our main studios.

[Fabrication Studio]
Installed with the latest digital fabrication equipment and other tools, this studio is an ideal workspace for prototyping. Users can utilize the equipment after attending the specified tutorials. [Creation Studio]
Located at the core of the Center, it is an excellent area for conducting large table discussions and tasks requiring large workspace.

[Presentation Studio]
This large wooden floor stage is used for presentations, lectures, physical performances, and other various activities.



[Research Studio]
It is a closed silent space.

Using the Center

Kyoto University faculty and administrative staff members are authorized to use the Center. Refer to User Guidelines, Center Layout, and List of Equipment for further information.

[First-time users, or non-key holders]
Attend Center Orientation (approx. 10–15 min., Wednesdays/Thursdays) to register staff or student ID card with the entrance security system in accordance with the Access Key Clearance Guidelines. Contact *1 below for further information. All participating members of an event should attend the orientation at the same time.

[Reservations and after-hour use]
Download the Application for Use of Facilities form, fill in the required information and submit to *1 below.

Design Program (see *2 below) faculty and administrative staff members may apply directly. Faculty and administrative staff members of other programs are able to apply through a faculty or administrative staff member of the Design Program (*2).
To check availability of space, select “Calendar” on the Reservation Status page (in Japanese), and select “All Items” from the list (third line from the top), and the monthly reservation status will be shown.

[Use of machine tools]
Attend a safety tutorial. Refer to the Center Equipment List for duration of tutorials as this differs according to equipment classification. Make sure students carry the following insurance policies: Gakkensai (Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research), and Gakkenbai (Personal Liability Insurance for Students).
